/sp/, the 4chan sports board, created their own YWOT subworld in 2012. The owner of the world(presumed to be /~InfraRaven) challenged users to scroll as far north as possible in order to prove the severity of their autism.

The world experienced rapid growth over the course of three days, with many cities being built and some users scrolling as far up as Y:12,000.

Textworld Ribbon of Autism Awareness

Possibly the first meme to be made off of YWOT.

The Textworld Ribbon of Autism Awareness was posted onto /sp/ on August 3rd, 2012 and promised fortune to all who replied to it with a "THANK YOU."

ASG

The Anti Spam Group(ASG) was a faction of YWOT users dedicated to combatting spammers/griefers, most often with the use of erase scripts.

ASG was a controversial presence as many thought that they had no right to impose any rules on YWOT. This disagreement would lead to numerous feuds with spammers, reaching back to before the 2015 Reset.

As of 2020, ASG has been inactive for an untold number of years.

InfraRaven

Basically the main character of YWOT from 2012 to 2015.

InfraRaven was a user who found the site in 2012. Since then he has been involved in numerous projects and was in touch with Andrew Badr, the creator of YWOT.

Today he is the only known admin of the site, being able to edit the Spawn Box just like Andrew Badr. He was also a creator of Our World of Pixels(which can be described as YWOT but for pixel art) and hosts FP's version of Our World of Text on his server. InfraRaven pays for the upkeep of both websites.

"Oh Randomguy_"

A meme posted on December 8th, 2013 in InfraRaven's Facebook.

It covers user Randomguy_'s induction into "YWOT Inc.," whose slogan is "In swag we trust."

Randomguy_ has since deleted their account, but from the number of times they were mentioned we can assume that they were an important user in their time.

They were also known for their YWOT wiki project along with an index of subworlds.

DIGIBILLCIPHER

December 9th, 2016

DIGIBILLCIPHER was a prolific user of the 2015 - 2020 era of YWOT and has traveled at least 1000 coordinates in multiple directions.

They were also the first person to join the Unofficial YWOT Discord, arriving on November 30th, 2016(four days after the server's creation).

Mainpage Drawing

One of their first contributions to the server(and the second image to be posted) was a colored drawing of the YWOT mainpage, showing what is presumably the West and East Roads along with the ladder that used to be the sole trail of the North Road.

Platyduck

A member of the YWOT Explorers, a community formed by North Road travelers in 2020. Platyduck was known for creating a chain of 7/11 tents on his journey to Nirvana.

YWOT Explorers Logo

Created on April 19th, 2020 and has become increasingly iconic ever since.

Method of creation was presumably Google Slides.

Mandrake

Mandrake is a renowned explorer of YWOT who has gone 100,000 coordinates on both the West and East Roads. They have also founded numerous major landmarks and is known for writing what is possibly the longest manually typed body of text on the website.

They were also an active contributor to the Dreamer's Road project.

Dreamer's Road Album

Maticalman

Maticalman was a user who joined YWOT in late 2022 but who is mainly remembered for their activities in late 2023.

They were an active participant of the Factions era of Spam Central, in which different groups of ASCII characters would fight and interact with one another. Maticalman made many pieces of ASCII art during this period and was the creator of the Pirates, CMB, Vyn, and Mercenary factions.

Maticalman is best known, however, for getting into drama on the YWOT wiki as well as other parts of the site. For this reason they(and their creations) are subject to frequent ridicule by the YWOT community.

Factions Art

Political Compass

Chenn

Chenn is another user who participated in the Factions era during 2023. They were the creator of the Chennoids and Chenn Industries.

After repeated drama with Maticalman they have since abandoned Factions and is now an active explorer of the YWOT mainpage, having gone more than 10,000 coordinates in multiple directions.

They have also contributed to multiple projects, such as Dreamer's Road and Arson Road. Using a script they created the southern section of the No Tower.

YWOT Blender Project

An project that began in late 2023, which aims to create 3D models of Factions characters and have them fight each other in short animations.

The process begins with the creation of ASCII assets, which then act as models that 3D models can be based upon. Once finished, some kind of pixelated ASCII-esque decoration will then be applied to the models. (Most models are going to have their meshes inverted to create a outline look, and have a lower resolution to give it a crispy pixel look. -Chenn )

So far progress with the project has been very slow.

The backgrounds were created from two large screenshots taken by Anonymousellama21 and /~fp/(both of which were edited by LiquidVicinity). The two screenshots, one made in 2017 and the other in 2013, each extend for 1000 coordinates on all sides.

YWOT Wiki Collages

Collages of Discord messages that document LiquidVicinity's struggles in creating the new YWOT wiki, the place where you are right now.

The effort to create a new website, which began on August 2nd of 2024, took 36 days in total. Along the way 91 :thumbsup: emojis were used to commemorate various successes, while 68 gifs were sent by LiquidVicinity in order to express their frustrations with the struggle.

The cycle of "it's so over" and "we're so back," which was once believed to be unending, finally saw its conclusion on September 7th, 2024.
