Spam Central
Spam Central is a chaotic area surrounding the center of YWOT's Mainpage. There is no consensus on how large Spam Central is or where it ends, but it can be recognized by the abundance of text, art and spam in all directions.
Spawn, located at [X:0 Y:0], is the area where users begin whenever they enter the site. Any area within 4 coordinates of Spawn is subject to near-constant activity. The center is a place of change and nothing lasts long there.
The center of Spawn is marked by an indestructible square known as the Spawn Box, which welcomes users to the site and links to various useful subworlds. The Spawn Box can only be accessed by an admin or the site's creator, who used to make regular updates to the box.
As a rule of thumb, activity becomes less frequent the farther you get away from [X:0 Y:0], leading to text that can last longer without being griefed.
General Information and History[edit | edit source]
Since the creation of the site,[1] Spam Central has been frequently cleared and destroyed by members of the community. Due to the influx of users in the area, it is unlikely any messages put in the spam central region will survive more than a few days without being deleted.
Well described as lawless wasteland with frequently posted ascii porn content, or otherwise degenerate material. It is also considered one of the best places to meet other members of the community as generally, somebody is active at all times of the day in Spam Central. Both noobs, and older veteran users of the community.
Spam Central has been the victim to by far the most incursions, copypasta and raids.
Spam Central was one of the many structures reset on July 15th, 2015[2] by Andrew Badr.
Griefing/Spamming in YWOT[edit | edit source]
Griefing and spamming are, and will always be, prolific issues within YWOT.
Griefing/spamming on a daily basis happens mostly within a ~2 coordinate radius of Spawn. Text written in this area tends to last 3 days at most before being destroyed one way or another. Text written a short distance outside the ~2 coordinate radius are still heavily susceptible to destruction, though they have the potential to last much longer. By going just ~5 coordinates away from Spawn you can find messages and ascii art that have been around for multiple months(though some notable items are periodically restored via scripts).
Generally, widespread griefing/spamming in YWOT is concentrated within a ~50 coordinate radius of Spawn. Beyond that point only major roads and trails will contain remnants of spam. And after you travel 1000+ coordinates in any direction spam will have almost completely disappeared(with a few exceptions here and there). Most griefers don't bother to go beyond 1000 coordinates, so anything you place beyond that point will likely remain for the foreseeable future. However it is important to note that notable coordinates(Ex. 10,000, 6969, 5000) are still susceptible to attacks due to the existence of teleport scripts.
An 2021 client update eliminated most scripts that allowed for spamming/griefing. Manual griefing/spamming was unaffected by this update, as well as a few remaining copy&paste scripts(though these tend to be slower than the ones used before).
Before Mainpage was reset in 2015, spamming was significantly more prolific than it is now. At one point everything in a 350 coordinate radius of Spawn would be regularly covered by spam.
Spawn Box Changes[edit | edit source]
Andrew Badr used to make regular changes to the Spawn Box. On their world, the user /~fp has kept an archive of every iteration of the box since May 2nd, 2015.[3][4][5]
A collection of older Spawn Box designs can be found at /~InfraRaven/MainBox.

Admin Cursor Sightings[edit | edit source]
Every once in a while a white cursor will be spotted inside the Spawn Box. This is usually assumed to be an admin or Andrew Badr himself, though on at least one occasion scripts have been used to place cursors into the box.

ASCII art can also be copied from elsewhere. There are programs that can convert regular images into text.
Bunnies[edit | edit source]
One of the most commonplace ASCII creatures in the site.
This simplistic design is thought to outdate YWOT itself.

Factions[edit | edit source]
"is muh bennis"[edit | edit source]
A message that has been repeatedly written beneath the Spawn Box.
From 2021 to 2022 it was an almost daily occurrence. Since then it has become more infrequent, but users would still write it every once in a while.
Nobody knows who started this tradition.
Triangle With Mammaries[edit | edit source]
ASCII art of an anthropomorphic triangle with... ummm...
The crude triangle first became popular in 2023 and is still a regular sight to this date(2024).
The triangle with tits can be seen as a counterpart to "is muh bennis," taking up residence at the top of the Spawn Box while The Bennis dwells beneath.

Roombas[edit | edit source]
Moving text objects that devour text surrounding the Spawn Box.
Roombas have been created by The Janitor and Moth Cult Leader.
