A collection of YWOT cities that are not located on major roads or trails.

Early YWOT City-Building Projects[edit | edit source]

A series of settlements created by 8-Bit City and other users in 2009 and 2010, not too long after the creation of Your World of Text.

These are some of the earliest records of YWOT activity on the internet.

The Building Art Project[edit | edit source]

An 2009 project where users created cities and buildings all around the Mainpage.

The goal was simple: to create a fast, easy-to-build building that could be replicated by other users to create lots of buildings throughout the main page. To an extent, I was successful. I created several cities on the main page, hundreds of "clicks" away from 0,0. Some of the cities might remain, others have been destroyed. You can view the /worldmap I created to keep track of these both my cities and cities built by other users.
The problem, however, is that building ascii towns and buildings is boring as fuck. There just isn't anything to do with all of the infinite grid space in ywot. The Art Project, however, consists of a series of screenshots of buildings in yourworldoftext. All of these structures have long since been destroyed, and I leave you with these unusual pictures. I only built the buildings.

The attempt at creating order in a sea of chaos failed. Human nature proved to entropic for the powers of art.^[1]

RPG Town^[2][edit | edit source]

Presumably an extension of The Building Art Project.

RPG town was created in March of 2010 and comprised of several simplistic buildings. The settlement was initially located at X:6 Y:6, but was moved to X:20 Y:-10 after a series of attacks by griefers.

Contributed to by countless users in 2010 and 2011.

This is quite possibly the largest city in all of YWOT, with Sky City being the only known contender.

Awesomeville[edit | edit source]

Awesomeville was initially created at /awesomeville on April 27th, 2010.

After surviving multiple griefs, the city was transferred to /~JerryStarfield/jerryscopy where it remains to this day.

Hillcrest Village[edit | edit source]

A small settlement from /textworldexplorers, a subworld founded by travelers from /msernst.

Snail Country[edit | edit source]

A beautiful alt code city that has existed near Spawn since July 2019 at the latest.^[3]

Several buildings(and trees) of a similar artstyle can be found in ourworldoftext.com/mhz, suggesting that the builder was part of the ManHatingZone. However it is important to note that the MHZ occasionally pastes Mainpage art into their subworlds.

Just like Snail Country, buildings in the style of Poopland Republic can also be found in ourworldoftext.com/mhz. It is not impossible that the two cities were created by the same artist(s).
